Protest at Incinerator > You heard it here second

silly billy | 26.02.2002 15:15

Seems rather too many stories of actions posted here are gleaned from the local Tv news and press, and rehashed for the benefit of a wider readership. Heres another.

London Today (ITV, 12:30) reported that a group of protesters (possibly Greenpeace) had scaled the CHP incineration power plant (known locally as the 'rubbish-pile reactor') near Deptford, London. Living in nearby New X, I contrived to go for a walk past the said rubbish- reactor but I have to report I saw no signs of intelligent life, just a few police in a van, in their tea- break mode.
Hopefully someone else can give more details soon...

I see no problem with rehashing a story if the analysis or interpretation of the event offers something additional or over and beyond that of the original source. Admittedly it would be useful to be there in person but not necessarily so.

the greenpeace website has an article about it on the front page:

good place to look for issues relating to greenpeace!!

here's a clip:

"We've shut down Britain's 'flagship' waste incinerator in South London

We're barricaded inside the chimney and chained to grab-cranes in the tipping hall.

A team of climbing balifs intend to forcibly remove us. But we're staying until Onyx, the French multinational owners, close this plant for good. "
