A military action was launched against terrorist forces and, as a result, Jonas Savimbi and various elements were killed yesterday, the 22nd of February, 2002 at 1500hrs in the province of Moxico.

Since October last year, MPLA has been waging a fierce campaign against Unita in the east. Just last week General Galiano Da Silva e Sousa, Unita's national political commissioner was reported killed and other senior officers captured in Moxico as Unita forces retreated toward Zambia. The captured officers reportedly included General Almeida Ezequiel Chiccende, also known as "Buffalo Bill" and second-in-command to Unita's military chief.

A spokesman for President Jose Eduardo dos Santos said the army was holding Mr Savimbi's body in Moxico. "We are going to broadcast television footage of the body," the spokesman was quoted as saying. Savimbi of late was using a Ugandan passport to travel around Africa spreading terror. Unita terrorists are very much engaged in the Congo conflict (DRC) fighting alongside forces of evil.
