A similar site in India - tehelka.com - is being closed down by the government after it revealed massive corruption within the BJP, the right-wing party elected to government on the promise of sweeping away corruption. Many people are afraid of posting to india.indymedia for fear of police violence.
Other anarchist or progressive news sites are being hounded off the net in a similar way. Italy is a prime example of where indymedia is simply not tolerated. I fear that UK's indymedia will come under wave of repression under new anti-terrorism legislation.

See, I get a lot of flak for continually posting 'conspiracy' stuff to im.
