Old Labour is New Labour

Silly Billy | 19.02.2002 15:30

Rubbish on the streets in 1978 and Garbagegate in 2002, New Labour is actually resuming the unfinished business started in the late 70s.

the wave of strikes which hit the Callaghan Labour government in the late 70s were the result of the regime trying to force workers to fit in with IMF fiscal demands. Plus ca change ! The wave of seemingly senseless sell-offs now being pushed through by Blair in breach of all protocols are similarly as a result of WTO / Gatt insistence.
Old Labourites and SWP take note : Old labour IS New Labour! its just that workers have been badly hit by the Thatcher years, and consequently less able to resist, although there are now some glimmers of hope in the election of more resolute union officials.
