Bush arrives on the Korean pennisula today only to be met by growing protests against US foreign policy in the region. A broad coalition of political groups have called for vocal protest in opposition to the US's hegemonic role in global militarism and neo-liberal globalization.

Bush arrives on the Korean pennisula today only to be met by growing protests against US foreign policy in the region. A broad coalition of political groups have called for vocal protest in opposition to the US's hegemonic role in global militarism and neo-liberal globalization. Activist's insist that these acts of protests are not mere displays of "anti-Americanism," but rather articulate of criticisms of agressive policies which are undermining both cultural autonomy and participatory democracy in the region.
Yesterday, members of Korea's pro-unification student movement occupied the American Chamber of Commerce in the Seoul World Trade Center, breaking their windows in order to hang a banner criticizing Bush's threat's of war against North Korea. Over twenty students were arrested. On Monday, a coalition representing over 600 civil society members held a press conference and attempted to deliver a petition to the of the US embassy crititicizing Bush's now infamous 'axis of evil' speech. However, riot police would not let them get close to the building. The largest protests are expected to occur Wednesday and Thursday.
