Rockstar Games' (who did the well violent Grand Theft Auto) 'State of Emergency' play station 2 game is now onsale.
This game is highly rumored to be based on the WTO protests in Seattle.

Sadly the linking of this full on violent game with the 1999 Seattle WTO protests may help spread the almost now accepted history re-writing media myth that Seattle was some violent out of control riot, as opposed to the truth that it was in fact a police riot where peaceful protestors were attacked with tear gas, pepper spray and batons.

One website devoted to the game however tries to put in in a reality context and provides some informative links to the 'movement'.

Perhaps this game will become an excellent recruitment tool for the protests this year. Hopefully, everyone will get the violence out of their system playing the game...

This game sparked quite a debate on Indymedia when it was first reported a few months ago:

The game's story is set in an Orwellian vision of the future in which a monolithic entity known as the Corporation is in control of the sprawling metropolis known as Capital City. Trouble begins to brew when the Corporation begins dabbling in mind control and imposing martial law. The citizens start to organize into resistance groups when those opposed to the Corporation are "dealt with" by less-than-gentle Corporation troops. You assume the role of one of the resistance fighters, who are all motivated by their own personal beefs against the Corporation and are determined to bring it down.

Players can use any item available, including pipes, bricks and benches, even dismembered body parts, and you have to keep the riot going on for as long as possible.

So, it should come as no surprise to Rockstar that a few people haven’t taken kindly to the title. In fact, the firm was probably expecting it. The opening of a cnet news report reads: "If you missed out on the tear gas, rubber-pellet fire and window-smashing fun of Seattle's 1999 anti-World Trade Organization riots, cheer up. You can now play the video game."
