Fat Cat's Milk Goes Sour

Brian Cahill - ISR | 14.02.2002 15:41

Brief report of International Socialist Resistance (ISR) protest at Andersen offices on Saturday. Sorry about the delay.

Tony Blair and a business Fat Cat shaking hands and
smiling. Not an unusual sight. This time, though,
something different was happening.

Both were International Socialist Resistance members
protesting outside the offices of Andersen financial
consultants. 20 young ISR members were demonstrating
the anger felt by many workers and young people at the
close relationship between big business and New
Labour.

Andersen are the accounting firm of the collapsed
energy giant Enron. Thousands of workers were left
unemployed and penniless as company directors made
millions seling off their shares. In Britain,
Andersen advised their New Labour friends to bring
sweeping privatisation into schools and hospitals. Of
course Andersen, like other profiteers, want to get
their grubby paws on the juicy Private Finance
Initiative (PFI) contracts which will be up for grabs
as Blair and his cronies sell off public services.

ISR distributed hundreds of leaflets calling for
decent public services and an end to the privatisation
rip-off, getting a good response from passers by and
embarrassing the Andersen fat cats.
