Here some information about the 4 student activists who were arrested in Sevilla. The university of Sevilla also excluded 6 student activists from the university. In Spain students are protesting since october 2001 against a new law, the LOU, and the commercialization of education. At the bottom of this article you can find adresses of the students in Sevilla to send solidarity e-mails and a link where you can find adresses of Spanish embasies and consultates in your country where you can send protest-mails, call them etc. etc.

LATEST NEWS: Four students are arrested at February 12 in Sevilla because the assault of the February 8 in Sevilla. This morning students demonstrated in front of justice (the court) buildings in Sevilla for their release. The arrested are: Lito (Education Sciences student), Adan (Biology), Ricky (Information Sciences, Journalism), and Juan (lawyer).More info at:

But... What is LOU?:
The "Lou" is an approved law, the "Ley Organica de Universidades", whose aim is to essentially privatise the Spanish higher education system, to increase the involvement of business in universities, to force contracting-out of services inside the education system (security, office duties, cleaning, etc.), and to reduce the levels of democracy (student representation) inside universities.

Why are they arrested?:
Because on Friday February 9th. there was an assault protagonised by students to the Presidency Building of the University of Sevilla demanding not to apply the LOU in this university. For more info read the first page of
