Despite his earlier promises ol' Blunkett looks set to introduce a national ID card, because it is what we need REALLY to protect from those terrorists this war was supposed to have put out of business...
UK ID Card Proposals Return Reversing a previous promise not to introduce a national ID card, Home Secretary David Blunkett announced on Febraury 5 that it was going to issue a consultation paper on an "entitlement card" in the summer. The card would include fingerprints, digital photo, name, address and an ID number. At least initially, people would not be required to carry to card but the card would be required for employment and all dealings with the government including health services and libraries. The cost is estimated to be upto £1 billion.
