THE PROTESTS
there are protests every thursday since more than two years in vienna,
austria. this week, on the 7th february 2002 their is the so called "opernball" where
the high society meets and have a huge party. the tv send pictuers from this event around the globe. the demonstrations against the "opernball" have a more then ten year old history. since two years the opnerballdemonstration is together wirh the donnerstagsdemonstration, the weekly demonstration against the government. after some years with very small demonstrations the demonstration in 2000,
some days after the rightwing government get the power, around 15.000 people
protests with a carnival against the rehabilitation of the austrian government. last
year around 1.000 people joined the opnerball-donnerstagsdemonstration. the police started beating and hunted protesters and people who were crossing the
street this year their will be two demonstrations. one demonstration will go to the opera, the other one want to go to the paralment, one prison, and then to the volksoper.
