Biotechnology Newswire: 06/02/02

Greetings!

Right now, there is a tremendous amount of activity happening around biotechnology issues. At the World Social Forum in Brazil, an extremely significant agreement against life patents was signed by organizations from more than 50 countries. There have been several significant stories on the problems with biotechnology as a result of Britian's Royal Society finally acknowledging the health risks associated with genetically modified ingredients. Other British scientists have recently documented the development of "super-weeds" as a result of GE material cross-pollinating with wild species.

You can check out more stories and information, as well as serach, comment, and post your own stories at:  http://www.neRAGE.org

|TOWN TO TOWN CAMPAIGN |
29 towns in Vermont will be bringing resolutions against genetically modified crops to their town meetings on March 5th. This has the potential to expand the number of localities in the US with resolutions against GE almost three fold. Even if you don't live in Vermont, you can use this kind of model to use grass-roots political process to work against the biotechnology industry. If you're interested in finding out more about the campaign, or would like help organinzing in your community, please get in touch!
