An anti-NATO press conference in Munich turns into a protest with around 2000 people - police disperse and make mass arrests - meanwhile 2000 people protest in Zurich switzerland against the WEF and are met with tear gas. Solidarity action continue around the world.

"what happened today in Munich, Germany"
hello all
just sending my regards to all of you in New York and Brasil, and to let you know whats up over here. Thousands are gathered in Munich, Germany this weekend to protest the NATO Security Coucil Summit. All demonstration have been declared illegal. I have just come from a demo that which into the square Marienplatz. People gathered there at 5PM for a press conference which turned into a demo. The police, who where out in full force surrounded the square and told everyone to disperse. People chanted and laughed and whistled at the police orders. Shoppers were leaving the square and I slipped through around to the back of the police lines. Then those who were boxed in were seperated from everyone else. We were about 100 meters away from where police were surrounding demontrators. Every few moments there which a outburst of noise and chanting and yelling and cameras flashes as protestor after protestor were dragged passed us by police. We could only shout slogans of solidarity as we were seperated from them by a heavy policy line. This continued for a copuple OF hours, and it is estimated that 250-300 people were arrested. No one knows for sure what will happen tomorrow but thousands are expected to flood into town. Everything is illegal now though and the whole town center is a red zone. Our struggle continues...
Zurich, Switzerland (home of the WEF):
Around 2000 people had gathered for an anti-WEF demonstration in Zurich. By around 9.20pm the police dispersed the demonstration using tear gas, water cannon and apparently plastic bullets. A Roles Royce garage, newspaper office and several cars were damaged, either smashed or graffitied. No confirmation on the number of arrests.
