ITNET, the controversial systems and service provider who were in control of the Hackney council benefits systemup until last year, have announced big profits for the last financial year.

Many people are still feeling the effects of when ITNET were in control of benefits in Hackney as backlogs of rent payment are still in process and the council itself is left with an extra burden of £38 million debt, a sum the local authority admit they have no chance of retrieving. “If you get involved in litigation…you’d have to spend several million (pounds) of tax payers money hoping you’d get it back…What if you don’t? It might even be illegal spending of public money. We’re on a hiding to nothing, especially us chasing a contractor like ITNET.” Meanwhile, it would seem ITNET have recovered with a pre tax profit of £12.6 million for the last financial year. ITNET’s contract was ended in January last year.
