MUST THE LEFT ENDORSE ANTI-SEMITIC CRAP?

JOHN FLAHERTY | 27.01.2002 18:30

Racist cartoons and protocols-of-zion-style fabrications posted on Indy Media? Not a good sign.

I just saw a cartoon on INDY MEDIA presenting the caricature of a Jew - complete with big hooked nose - with an expression of maniacal glee riding Uncle Sam. This is the most extreme example of the anti-Semitic crap I am seeing on more and more "left" websites.

Depicting Israel as controlling the U.S. Empire is totally crazy. It is an attempt by the Islamists to get the sympathy of the Left to give their anti-Semitism - which once put them in bed with Hitler - legitimacy. And the Left falls for it. What a pitiful state of affairs.

The same post on Indy Media repeats a supposed quote from Sharon. The "quote" has him saying the Jews run America. In the past only the American nazi Party and the Ku Klux Klan dared say such things. Oh yes, Pat Buchanan and his today Justin Raimondo hint it.

Those who read this fabrication and without noticing there was zero documentation, nodded in agreement, will want to know whom they have climbed into bed with.

It is one Jim Moore. He published the "quote" in the "Tallahassee Democrat" on Oct. 13. That got the ball rolling. He was of course (and properly) attacked as a liar by Jews and others in the area whereupon Islamist Websites started spreading the quote and claiming the "Jewish reaction" proved Moore's point.

Who is this Jim Moore, new bedmate of the knee-jerk Left?

He is an apologist for slavery in the U.S., that's who he is. Since I DO document things, here is a sample - vintage Jim Moore:

START OF QUOTE]
"When Bob inquired further, he was told some things that most Americans are totally ignorant of. According to the Nigerians themselves, the "tribes" in this section of their country have always been the more affluent, better educated, industrious people. But in the "bush" country the reverse is true. There, the tribes have always been peasant people, mostly illiterate, living in thatched huts and eking out a bare existence.

"What happened in past years was that opportunistic Nigerians from the more affluent tribes would raid bush villages, take whole families prisoners, and sell them to slave traders on the coast. From what these men told Bob, no more than 20 percent of the slaves were ever sent to America. Most were sent to other countries around the world. Now, obviously, even 20 percent of slaves from Africa sent to America is surely a negative aspect of our history. And the Nigerians that Bob worked with acknowledged that. What they didn't understand, they said, was our obsessive national guilt over the matter, and the African Americans' insistence on broad brushing white Americans as perpetrators of that tragedy. Particularly when the truth is that Africans themselves were, to a large degree, responsible for the enslavement of their own people.

"Most Americans have never been to Africa. And none of us was there during the slave-trading days. But Captain Bob has been there, and he got the facts straight from the people who should know. So a logical question is this: If the blacks in Africa - who themselves contributed to this tragedy - see no reason for America to feel guilty, why should we continue to do so?

I see I left out the link for Jim Moore's apology for slavery. IT can be read in full at  http://www.google.com/search?q=cache:o3ZjjuLZKqMC:web.tallahasseedemocrat.com/content/tallahassee/2001/02/20/opinion/0220.oped.moore.htm+%22Americans+have+never+been+to+Africa.+And+none+of+us+was+%22&hl=en

Moore was a repeater, not an originator

A couple of weeks ago, after the "we control America" story had appeared on Indymedia for the umpteenth time, I spent some time trying to find the source of the story.

A Google search on "Sharon" followed by a search within results on "control America" turned up over 400 references, virtually every one of which was a verbatim repeat of the same press release from the Islamic Association for Palestine. A couple had corrected a grammatical error in the original, but were otherwise identical. The press release claimed that the original source had been a Hebrew-language broadcast on an Israeli radio station.

It followed the usual pattern of conspiracist propaganda- float a superficially plausible tale (in the sense that one never knows how a bad-tempered bully like Sharon might shoot his mouth off in a tantrum) which, when you try to check it, vanishes into the mist of untraceability. It was neither possible to prove it true nor to prove it false. The best assessment I could make was that since I could find no other trace of this story, or the shitstorm that such a statement could be expected to trigger in the genteel world of Israeli politics , it was most likely a fabrication.

This press release was dated October 3rd. Moore's article appeared on October 13.

Moore wasn't the originator. He was just another of the multitude of dreary true-believers who endlessly propagate lies which happen to fit their prejudices from one Web page to another.

Here are a couple of links bearing on the provenance of this story:
