SCRAP TRIDENT! STOP NUCLEAR DUMPING AT DEVONPORT DOCKYARD!
SUNDAY 4TH FEB 2002 DEMO AND RALLY
STARTING FROM DEVONPORT PARK, PLYMOUTH, 1pm

Devonport Dockyard is to become the base for nuclear submarine refitting and waste disposal following the closures of Rosyth and Aldermaston. A nuclear hazard will be created in the middle of a city of 200,000 people. Independent reports show the likelihood of a nuclear accident in Plymouth will be 1 IN 8 within the next 20 years.

Plymouth Socialist Alliance, the political alternative to the self interest of New Labour, plus national and local trade unionists, peace campaigners & environmental activists will be demonstrating against the 700% increase of tritium discharge into the Tamar and Plymouth Sound and the hugely increased potential for nuclear accident.

Tony Staunton of Plymouth SA said today:

"This is a peaceful rally and demonstration for peace and for the safety of the whole region. We are for a safe, clean environment for all in the South West, for safe conditions for dockyard workers and against the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction"
