Hackney Council attack old and disabled (again)

richieP | 19.01.2002 17:20

Hackney council have taken away freedom passes (for bus and tube travel) from some 2000 people making them prisoners in there own homes.

As part of the IMF style structural adjustment program
that Hackey new Labour group are implementing, around 2000 people have had their link to the outside world snatched away from them by Hackney Social Services (neither social nor a service) as they cancel our freedom passes for public transport.

As if it were not enough to have to live on miserly benefits we are now told we are a true burden upon society and should no longer get free tarvel.

Unlike council bigwiggs who spend thousands upon subsidisied transport for themselves, we must stay at home!

Following on their attacks upon Centres like the Huddleston Centre for disabled young people in Clapton and the closure of old peoples day centres elsewhere in hackney, the Council now insist that old people and disabled people are an embarrasment when seen upon the streets and push us into out houses with the instruction "stay there"!

BUT WE ARE NOT GOING TO. help in our campaign to defend freedom passes (personally i want direct action, and i dont feel particularly non violent actually, but there you go)

meeting organised by campaign
2.30 print house (leswin street, dalston), friday 25th jan

come and support us with your actions, energies and ideas...oh and leave all predujices, personal and political (except against tory and new labour) behind
