Britain Hit by Capitalist Christian Strike

[Not entirely a satire, either!]

This year, as indeed most others, Britain was hit by an almost total stoppage on December 25th. Public transport ground to a complete halt, airports were closed, and channel shipping ports reported that Europe was cut off*.
Large shops, complicit in the encouragement of greed-spending, all closed, and even newspaper print runs seized up. Citizens were advised to stay indoors (preferably with immediate family) while the media broadcast soothing mesages, and the head-of state made a public announcement calling for all people to turn to the church. A few brave survivors defied the order, some of whom could be seen staggering around the windswept, deserted streets, as if rehearsing for a George Romero film #. One, who refused to be named, said : "This is a dreadful day; the forces of capitalism have ruined it for me. I'm pinned down; I can't get out of the city, and even if I reach the coast, what then ?"

* A classic headline from years back.

# Dawn of the Dead, and other 'Zombie' films.
