UK complicit too

16.12.2001 22:08

This cartoon applies equally to the UK goverment, who abstained in the vote. The rest of the world thought sending international monitors to observe what is actually happening in the territories illegally occupied by the regional military superpower, Israel, was a good idea.

Blairs abstention had, of course, nothing whatsoever to do with his special advisor on the Middle East being Lord Levy, a Jewish business man who is a major fundraiser for the Labour Party. The fact that Levy has also fundraised for Ehud Barak, ex-Israeli Prime Minister is, of course, also irrelevant. So too is the fact that Lord Levy's son worked for Yossi Beilin, an Israeli Justice Minister, and that the Lord keeps a multi-million pound villa in a luxury suburb of Tel Aviv.

abstention or veto

Did the US veto the resolution or abstain?

If it merely abstained, then this cartoon is very seriously misleading.

Veto - as usual

As you will see if you look at the top of the page (it always amazes me how wilfully blind people can be to terror when it is perpetrated by the US and its client states) the US VETOED the call for UN observers. This is the second time it has done so this year, one of very very many security council vetoes it has used to shield Israel from the consequences of its many breaches of international territorial and human rights law. The US also provides much of the training, technology and weaponry used by Israel to oppress and colonise what remains of the Palestinian territories. Israel, predictably, was overjoyed by the veto, stating that - "monitors have never stopped terror activities. They have only complicated the situation", presumably referring to the understandable 'complications' that arise from not being free to murder civilians and raze entire villages to the ground without a pesky UN observer going and telling everyone what you are up to.

It's time we woke up to the fact that the world's biggest 'terrorist states' are the US, UK and Israel. If you want to fight terrorism then you need to burn your flag and become the enemy within, otherwise you are just another cog in the western imperialist death machine.

The UK

How does the UK come into this definition of terrorism?

US/Israel are still terrorists

Whether they vetoed or abstained has no relevence to the catoon. Regardless of some UN vote, the US is supplying arms, giving political support and economic support to a terrorist state.
