picture US MARINES IN NEUTRAL IRELAND

IrishIndymedia | 16.12.2001 14:17

The festive atmosphere (singing dancing and music) was shattered by the arrival of hundreds of American trained killers (Marines) marching through Neutral Ireland on there way to War in Afghanistan. The provoked (rude hand signals waving shouting etc.) and now visibly distraught protesters tried to gain access to to Airport terminal, they then pulled down the perimeter fence which was breached with one man coming within yards of a plane carrying hundreds of US marines

Brave or Stupid?

Brave or stupid?
was the protester trying to stop the plane and cause an International incident, I hope so. Would the 600 US Marines have beaten him up or shot him maybe!, but seen as they are not supposed to be there anyway maybe not.

Bozo? or someone who belives very strongley in what he/she is doing, The sight of hundreds of killers marching through neutral Ireland was to much for some people.
If no one protested (or got arrested) it would have not made the news (only just did anyway) and if its not on the news its not in the publics consiousness and they are not thinking about/aware of the Issues.

This Is a very Important Issue for Ireland, we are a Neutral country and have no business getting involved in another countrys war.
Fair play to the Irish Peace protesters, if direct action is required to make the point then so be it.

Keep up the good work

brutality pertpretated by these evil inbred assholes using your country for a base for their killing fields then have a very long word with yourself...

With comments like that you simply aren't going to be taken seriously by anyone, anywhere. Your anger needs to be directed at the policy makers, not soldiers. Yes, soldiers are trained killers; that is what war is all about, and war, unfortunatly, is a fact of human existance. Most soldiers actually have good intentions, and one should really consider the fact that western soldiers have done a lot of good in recent years (peacekeeping, humanitarian assistance etc.). To suggest that these men are off to Afghanistan to slaughter innocents is irrational and absurd (let's be realistic: it's airplanes that tend to do this sort of thing, and not intentionally [which doesn't really make a difference, though]).

Action is needed

19.12.2001 19:08

Action is needed to bring awareness to the genocide and massacre of Afghans by the U S. These men are directly involved in the action and responsible. 'Following orders we are all such nice apple pie guys' as a way of avoiding responsibility is not good enough. The action by these protestors again showed the world that not all the West is complicit in the killing. And lets face it slilence at a time like this is complicity
