100% ABSOLUTE PROOF

loel | 16.12.2001 02:51

That is what they are saying on the Fox News Network about the video of the Osoma bin Laden video touted as a confession.

News outlets theoretically are objective and questioning organizations, gathering facts and crafting news stories based on those facts. Fox news network is attempting to change all of that with its coverage of the war. Specifically, with its coverage of the recently “discovered” Osama bin Laden tape shown internationally but not made available for technical scrutiny.

The cry on Fox News is, “the tape is 100% absolute proof” of bin Laden’s involvement. This was the immediate response by them. Clearly the Fox Network has abandoned all precepts of journalistic integrity. They have compromised all credibility. What happened to questioning what is given to you to verify its accuracy? Why are not these reporters questioning the validity of this?

Clearly, what Fox “reporters” have to say is highly suspect. For any news gathering organization to do what they are doing is inexcusable.

"Objective"? (why)

16.12.2001 14:04

Why are so many of us assuming that a "free press" means an "objective press". Why can we not see that in some ways these two concepts are incompatible (ie: if not "free" to be biased/partisan/unobjective then not a "free press").

The presumed idea here is that anyone, any group can publish their own version of the truth, and hopefully the sum total of the truths expressed will represent some semblence of objectivity. Of course only the views of those able to afford publishing get out there, but that discussion we save for another time.
