Alert: Indymedia Server Problems

repost | 04.12.2001 23:43

Currently image video and audio uploads to imc uk and other imc sites are not working. This is because the server is out of space. People are working to rectify this. Here's a notice from  http://www.indymedia.org

ALERT: Indymedia is currently having some problems. The hard drive where we store all the great uploads of pictures, sounds, and videos is full! We're looking for a solution, but don't have one yet. (Only took 2 years!)

However, it should still be possible to publish text stories. (though there might be weirdness)
We're currently trying to figure out what to do about this. But for now uploads will fail to most IMC sites.

Specific offers of assitance can be sent to  imc-tech@indymedia.org, or  imc-sysadmin@indymedia.org, or to donate to the tech fund, techdonate.indymedia.org

You can also continue publishing rich media files at the following IMC's Arizona, Buffalo, Chiapas, Finland, Hawaii, LA, The Netherlands, New Mexico, Norway, Philadelphia, Quebec, San Francisco, Sweden, St. Louis, Utah, Vancouver, and Victoria.

This is maybe a crisis

As technically inept as I am this is bad news at this important moment in time, Are you saying we got to communicate via all these far flung sites and thus lose touch with our own community. I'm quite happy with some of the US sites, having contributed there, but feel they're on a different course to us having been subjected to numerous major traumas, which we have so far escaped, apart from the ongoing Irish problem, which we're used to. what are we waiting for - a temporary breakdown while you sort out a bigger hard disk or what? Put it out or is this some teminal kind of thing?

They could delete some of the old stuff off the server or copy it from the exisiting server onto a spare drive ( coz the original stuff from 99 is special an'all). A bit of a inconvienience considering this is one of the most important times that our (well my) generation will probably face and this is the only place where you can publish stuff without no restrictions.
but i have faith in imc....they'll sort it.

the list of 'far flung' sites are suggestions of places to upload rich media content like pictures, audio and video - mostly posting text should be fine.
