Canadian Broadcasting Corp. Reports Extensive Civilian Casualties in Afghanistan.
A Canadian journalist visited a hospital today, near the border with Afghanistan in Pakistan where a steady stream of civilian wounded are showing up as a result of bombing directly on the city of Kandahar.
The wounded and family of the wounded said bombs are landing in the city and that is why they fled to a Pakistani hospital.
It seems that Canadians and Europeans are willing to report the facts surrounding the US military campaign in Afghanistan in there home countries but US journalists and their outlets are not.
One 12 year old girl lost her foot in the bombing, A boy lost his legs. A man brought from Kanahar by his brother survived a direct hit on his work shop in the center of the city but has severe brain damage. Another, a young woman lost all the flesh down the outside of her right leg. With many more there and continuing to show up one can only wonder at how many dead civilians there are in Kandahar.
After non stop monitoring of CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, NPR and FOX since 9/11, there has definitely been a black out policy on certain subject matter developed for the US audience and civilian casulaties in Afghanistan seems to be one of them.
What is unclear is how this blackout came about and what power does the Bush administration hold over these media outlets. One can only speculate that the Bush White House is threatening to hold up FCC issues that these media outlets have coming in front of the Fed in the coming months.
