Pictures of Anti-War Demo at Trafalgar Square

Trista di Genova | 26.11.2001 00:07

Trafalgar Square was packed. Estimates on their numbers range wildly, from 20,000 to 100,000 marchers. The range of marchers
was impressive; ranging from socialists, Green Party members, Quakers, students from all over England, teachers, scientists, muslims. "Not In My Name" was the main message, but there was a lot of anti-imperialism slogans, a lot of mistrust of the motivations of the British and U.S. Government, especially the U.S. vis-a-vis their policy in the Middle East.

Guest speakers included Rt. Hon. Tony Benn, former Labour MP. (article 1)

No one was arrested or hurt as far as I am aware. The police officer told me that on May Day things got out of control, but the mainstream media of course barely covers these things, so things were kept mum. The afternoon of the march I saw one cameraman from the British media, that was it.

SOME SLOGANS:
"George Bush we know you! Your daddy was a killer too."
"One two three four, we don't want your racist war."
