Rolls Royce occupied

Activists occupy Rolls Royce's office in an attempt to investigate allegations of crimes against humanity and the planet.

A citizens' inpection team today (Monday) tried to look into the dodgy dealings of Rolls Royce. They were investigating allegations that the company produces the reactors for Trident submarines (which carry indiscriminate weapons of mass destruction), dumps nuclear waste in Derbyshire and is involved in the manufacture of military equipment which is sold to repressive regimes and used to kill civilians in the current war against Afghanistan. They also happen to share their office with British Nuclear Fuels Ltd, who are incompetent as well as having questionable ethical practices.

The seven inspectors were backed up by a team of around 15 people who facilitated the investigation by blocking access to the scene of the crime, and informed workers and the public about what was going on through the use of leaflets, stickers, posters and a pretty impressive banner.

Unfortunately, due to non-cooperation of security staff, the inspection team was unable to gain access to the offices beyond the lobby. However, work was still disrupted as workers were sent away for a long coffee break while security staff and police tried to eject the inspectors and their support team (most workers seemed happy not to have to go in to work straight away). Eventually, all were removed using 'reasonable force' on the part of the security guards and a bit of selective vision from the police, who appeared to have a wide definition of 'reasonable'. There were no arrests, and rumour has it there were still stickers above the door and windows several hours later.

This was part of a long weekend of actions in London courtesy of Trident Ploughshares.

[I'm not claiming this to be a definitive account so anyone else who was there please feel free to correct/criticise the above]
