Lancaster human rights meeting

A meeting about human rights Lancaster, 17th November.

Lancaster TUC council organized a meeting about human rights, in the Gregson Centre, on Saturday 17th November, with several speakers from the trade union movement, refugee support group, coalition against the war, the green movement and others.

Towards the end of the meeting local MP Hilton Dawson came in and was politely but firmly told in no uncertain terms about the bad effects of the coming Draconian Powers laws, widening of the definition of terrorism, the Labour government's racist anti-asylum policies and other similar matters. As far as I could see, he did not have anything to say to defend himself.

One of the best comments there was by Pete, one of the Lancaster anarchists -
'We won't be social workered'
who said that all political parties were equally as corrupt, and the need was to replace them all with people power. Everybody had their say though. It was a really good meeting.

Previously, that same afternoon, the anti war coalition had presented Hilton Dawson with a petition at his constituency surgery.
