it's anti-Semitic that Jewish-Americans who proliforate the US entertainment industry from top to bottom have allowed for the demonization of Arabs & Islamic peoples for nearly 100 years. It's a disgusting shame that decent people, including Jews, have not spoken up about this in any kind of thoughtful, meaningful way, but instead have been cowed by the threat of being called an anti-Semite, the "Semite" ALSO referring to ARABs. How different is it to come out with explicit propaganda movies like the Nazis did, which by the way are more easily dismissed than the subtle attacks of many mainstream Hollywood movies, or with the decades-long constant barrage of images of Arabs as shifty, menacing, anti-Western, maniacal terrorist & murderers?
As far as i'm concerned, i agree with director robert altmann who has stated that Hollywood has to bear a little of the responsibility for shaping the world Arab "image".
i'm not saying that they should take 90% or even 35% for the atocities that al Qaeda has carried out; i'm just saying that the power of mass Hollywood films is not negligible. that Arabs around the world see the same movies & inferr from them how the rest of the world (the Western world) sees them. it wouldn't make me feel too good to see such negativity reflected back on my identity.
