President Blair?

Following an interview with Douglas Hurd, infamous for his involvement in The Pergau Dam affair and the very murky deal to privatise Serbian Telecom which provided Milosovic with the funds he needed to wage the war in Kosovo, which heaped sycophantic praise on Tony Blair for his new role as US Foreign Minster, there was an interview with Giles Merritt, Director of Forum Europe, about the possibility of Blair becoming president of europe, during which he said
'...there is a great deal of interest around Europe in the idea that the next commision president should be elected and should have a popular mandate of some sort even if he is only elected by the members of the european parliament.'
So what constitutes a popular mandate? It is pretty obvious that the prefered option of the powers that should not be is a mandate from the executive, in other words all those Chris Pattens and Niel Kinnocks. Well the next item in the programme was an item on the disgraceful plans of Blair and his cronies to stuff the British House of Lords with their mates. Just 20% of peers are to be elected and the rest are to be appointees.
You can listen to the programme at

and start thinking now about how life will be under a totalitarian leader who is already trying to get rid of the european human rights act and cannot even make the trains run.
'When they knock down your front door
How are you going to come?
With your hands on your head
Or the trigger of your gun?'
The Clash.
