" People of the same trade seldom meet together, even for merriment and diversion, but the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public, or in some contrivance to raise prices. It is impossible indeed to prevent such meetings, by any law which either could be executed, or would be consistent with liberty and justice. But though the law cannot hinder people of the same trade from sometimes assembling together, it ought to do nothing to facilitate such assemblies, much less to render them necessary. "
Adam Smith, The Wealth of Nations, Book1, Chapter X, Part II.

The Doha Conference lasts from November 9th to November 16th. Originally the electrohippies had not planned an action, but by popular demand we're providing one. But be aware, this action is a prelude to the action we were originally planning — an anti-TWAT action (The War Against Terrorism)  http://www.fraw.org.uk/ehippies/war.html beginning on November 14 th, and with no definite end date. More details on this action will be revealed on the 13th of November.

The column to the right provides links to related sites that can help you explore the issue of the WTO and free trade. The section below provides information related to the electrohippies WTO event.

The Doha Trade Talks Lobby
the electrohippies 2nd WTO Conference Action

WTO Lobby — Phase 1, 10th—12th November

In this first phase of the lobby action we are asking people to send their own personal messages to the American and European trade delegation's headquarters. The purpose of this is for the trade officials to be able to see what people think of the WTO, trade liberalisation, and the extension of globalisation to local public services via the Global Agreement on Trades and Services (GATS). The reason we have picked these two is that, between them, they effectively control the policies that are enacted through the WTO negotiation because they each control a large part of the volume of world trade.

Below are e-mail addresses and fax numbers for the offices of the US Office if the Trade Representative and the European Commission's Trade Directorate. We ask that you send personal messages by e-mail, and by fax if possible. This is not an exercise to clog up their in tray — we would like people to send personal messages about what they seen as the major problem presented by the WTO and GATS. Also, if you need some ideas or to crib some information, the links column on the right of the page will take you to various sites associated with the WTO and tade liberalisation, for an againt (perhaps, if you don't have time to read a lot, your best option is to try some of the media sites).

Most importantly, you must ensure to put your postal address on the e-mail/fax, and make sure that you ask for a written response. This is because we are asking them to justify their support for the WTO over the wishes of a large section of the 'global public'.

When you have sent either an e-mail, fax, or both, please could you click on the mouse icon here on the right. The purpose of this is to anonymously count the participation in phase 1 of the lobby action... thanks.

Finally, this is phase 1 of the lobby. PHASE 2, to coincide with the end of the conference will by uploaded to this page sometime on Monday evening (UK time). If you have completed this phase of the action you should return then to see if you would wish to participate in the second phase.
