A former Greek student leader during the time of the military junta and the dictator Metaxas (1974)will be speaking in London in mid November.

He was a student during the period of the occupation of the Athens polytechnic. He rose to prominence as the mouthpiece of the resistance radio, calling for support to come to the polytechnic when it was beseiged by the, then, fascist military.
He is planning on spending four or five days in London in mid-November, speaking at various schools, though I am trying to interest him in doing a public talk, especially as the date is so near the anniversary of
17th of November, 1973 when tanks were used to crush a student occupation of the Athens polytechnic, resulted in several deaths and the creation of a 'cop-free zone' which endures to this day!
2 years ago, former US president KKKlinton had the audacity to visit Greece during this period, as part of a wider Balkan tour. 100,000 Greeks rioted against him, and possible/probable CIA involvement in the military coup 0f 1973.

Didn't the dictator Gen. Ioannis Metaxas die in 1941? I was under the impression that the Colonel's Junta was led by someone of an entirely different name.

metaxas was indeed the dictator of greece in the 1930s.
the later military junta was less clear-cut but the overall ruler was colonel papadopoulous, who died quite recently as it happens.
