A peaceful demonstration in Oxford today got off to a sensational start as a protestor scaled the new Oxford University 'Said' Business school.

The new modern structure seen by many as an eyesore was funded by the Saudi Business man and arms dealer Wafiq Said. The protestor erected a banner and later was removed by Police climbers before being charged with aggravated trespass. The next part of the demonstration started at 5pm but was subject to Police restrictions included demonstrators being forced to stay within an enclosure. Colourful costumes included a 'Said' style Fat Cat, huge banners were displayed and leafletting aroused much interest; the action remained peaceful. Many of the demonstrators had been involved in the occupation of the original grade II Listed building on this site in 1988, despite a long occupation, painting of the building and erection and occupation of tree houses the save the surrounding trees the old railway station and LMS building was dismantled and re-sited. Over a hundred demonstrators emphasised the conflicts between capitalism and learning and the bribery and corruption involved at every stage of the setting up of both the school and the surrounding roads system; the use of 'blood money' to fund this new college is seen as unacceptable by many students and residents of Oxford
