Call to action agast the war

SAW | 05.11.2001 23:55

Manchester call to action agaist the war on December the 4th.

The Manchester University based SAW (Students Against War) call for all individuals and groups opposed to war to take action on December the 4th.

We call on everyone who can to take action against the war, whether that be organising a sit-in, teach-in, a poster campaign, handing out leaflets on market street, or doing something we haven’t thought of yet! As anyone knows who came down to the Manchester on Saturday the anti-war movement is growing! If we all give one big push together on one day we will all become more visible, this will both give us great potential for reaching people in the street, and will make it more likely what we get column inches in the main stream media. If your not in Manchester come along and get involved with SAW activity, or if you can't make it organise a solidarity event in your local area.

Let us know what your planning to do (so we can handle the media with some sort of unified front) or if your coming to Manchester contact SAW at stopworldwar3 @ hotmail.com (this is our groups email address but we will be setting up an account specifically for this event over the next few weeks.)

To Stop The Wars We must ~Stop Capitalism!

06.11.2001 03:36

War lays bare the horrors of capitalism, so the campaign for peace is identical with the campaign to end capitalist oppression.

Since 18 June 1999, we have witnessed the growth of
an international movement directed against the capitalist system - the cause of war, famine and environmental destruction.

The point of anti-war actions should be to stop the war - not to " become more visible". The point of revolution to change the world rather than "get column inches in the main stream media"

Why not participate is some practical experiments in action rather than rhetoric?

We are calling for an anti-capitalist bloc to enable a broad alliance of non-hierarchical groups and individuals to participate in a mass action in solidarity with the victims.

The aim of the action will emerge from its organisational form. The drumming will act as a focus for mobilising, but responsibility for decision making rests with the whole bloc via the direct democracy of a
public assembly.

Bring your mates, your costumes, flags, banners, props and refreshments. =:-)

We have a new world in our Hearts =:-)xxxxx

Just a note on why we are arranging this event.

The first aim of this event would be to try and put the antiwar movement in the media (on at leased a local level). The reason for doing this is to get the average person in the street to think about the war and the anti-war message. The more support we have the faster the war will end!

The second aim of this event would be to get people who have never previously been policially active, who have joined our (non-hierachical) group, to get proactive and make a difference.

How can we have a revolution if the masses don't know about it!

Also bare in mind that not everyone who is anti war is anti capitalism. We are calling for EVERYONE who is anti war to act agaist the war.

Ta
Ben

PS we will all be at london and will be selling coach tickets on stalls around manchester up till the event!

don't diss our action!

The proposed event in manchester is a day of ACTION, not rhetoric!
manchester uni SAW! is made up of a real diverse bunch of people.
yeah, i know some people are getting sick of people like me giong on about how great it is that socialists and anarchists can have a march together, but come on, for fucks sake!
Our student group reflects the diversity of the manchester demo, there are anarchists, SWPers, CND people, Islamic people and even a liberal democrat. We all oppose the wat but due to our diverse backgrounds and beliefs we all have our own ways of opposoing it. Thats why i reckon the day of action on december 4th is such a great idea. It is a specific day where everyone can do whatever they deem appropriate to stop the wat. The fact that it all happens on one day can show our unity, but the numerous autonomous actions that will take place will highlight our diversity and people can do whatr they feel happy with. If someone wants to stand out in the december rain getting petitions signed i am not going to diss them, i won't be joining them, but equally they won't be dissing me if i end up in bootle street nick.
so @bitch, stop slagging off our action, come to manc and join us or do something where you are on that day.
c u for the anticapitalist block thing on the 18th! (can you gimme some more info on that? my email is killwto @hotmail.com)
