Oxford Stop the War Public Meeting

A public meeting in Oxford tonight drew more than 500 people. Speakers included Jeremy Corbyn MP, Kate Hudson (Vice-Chair of CND) and Mike Woodin of the Green Party.

An anti-war public meeting held in Oxford Town Hall tonight drew more than 500 people. The audience heard the case against the war, both from a moral and a practical standpoint. A small but vociferous pro-bombing group was bunched around Chelsea Clinton (yes, she was there), including one man dressed in the American flag, but their heckling really only served to fire up the audience further. Many of the speakers pointed out to them that Afghan lives and American lives are the same, and that, for once, America should live up to its rhetoric.

Hopefully, with this kind of showing, Oxford will send a large group of people to the National Demonstration on November 18th.

I was there too, it was a great meeting. Was Chelsea really there? The apple pie crowd at the back were quite annoying but every time they heckled they got a pretty apt put down.

My favourite was when one speaker was talking about all the oil in Asia that the US wants to get it's hands on. One dumbass shouted 'There's oil in Alaska too' (I've no idea what point he was trying to make). The reply from the speaker Irene Brennan was 'Yes, but as far as I know that oil belongs to the US.'
