Manchester squat eviction URGENT!

Manchester Squat Collective | 30.10.2001 16:50

New Manchester autonamous social center raided by police.

The new squatted social center which opened on Monday 29th October on Oxford Street in Manchester, has today been raided by police. Activists are currently barracading the back entrance to prevent eviction. Earlier today (Tuesday) police and builders unlawfully entered the building via a back entrance. In the process an activist defending the squat was cut by a builder with a saw, badly injuring his hand. Those inside urgently need your help, electricity and water have been cut off but access is still possible through another entrance. Come along and voice your anger against the unlawful actions of the authorities. Bring instruments, music, food and water. The squat is on Oxford Street opposite the Odeon, on the site of the old Cyberia internet cafe.

The squat is not in the old "Cyberia" but is actually in what was "Dingles" florist. Same block, though.

More people are needed tonight and tomorrow as further police activity is expected over the next couple of days.

The OKasional cafe pops up from time to time in different buildings.
Some people involved will be the same as in previous incarnations, others different. So, a loose and changing collective I guess is your answer. Check out the Loombreaker for news of future cafes and other stuff (available free from various spots around Manchester, or loombreakerATnematodeDOTfreeserveDOTcoDOTuk), or call 0161-226 6814.
