Activists in Cardiff shut down an Esso petrol station on Saturday. A number of groups/organisations were represented - the WOMBLES, Cardiff Critical Mass, People and Planet and others.

The group were supporting Greenpeace’s ‘Stop Esso’ campaign. The group also felt that during this time of war, it was important that Bush and Blair’s agenda should not be followed. A flyer handed out during the action stated

“E$$O, the Republicans, Afghanistan, it’s all linked.”

“Its great that so many different groups are here. I feel it is important that actions such as this continue at the same time as the anti-war effort. Green issues haven’t gone away, Esso are still destroying our planet” an activist at the action stated.

For information on why Esso has been picked on see www.stopesso.com

Anti war action too?

Esso/Exxon is probably one of the main benefactors of the war in Afghanistan, having a stake in the oil fields of the Caspian sea.

It would be great if anti-war activists started to do actions against Esso as well as environmentalists.
