D2 - walk for capitalism? what the f**k are we doing about it?
paul | 22.10.2001 07:16
On december the second, capitalists will be marching through the cities of London, Manchester, Southampton and Bath.
Yes that's right, they've stolen the great way of organising things we have and are using it to their own ends, marching for the right to be exploited, to worship money as a god, and to keep the poor (in the U.K. and all over the world) opressed and trapped in poverty.
So what are we doing?
does anyone know which parts of which cities they plan to march through? are we going to get in the way? and are they really this ignorant?
I say we link arms and stand in their way (the police get in our way all the fucking time)
Or we fill waterpistols with urine and squirt them (well, urine is a bit unfair, but something bad smelling)
Anyone got any ideas?

1 - I'd be really surprised if they get any turnout - just think of all the people you know who would think this is a good idea - would any of them actually go?
2 - As we all know from experience, the Daily Mail-reading, Englishman's-home-is-his-castle, we-love-Maggie-Thatcher types who are the only possible target market for such a march have a deep-seated suspicion of street protest and will therefore be at least confused and at most revolted by such goings-on. Bad for house prices, don'cha know. Whoever is planning this (if it isn't all joke), which I'm not sure of, is shooting themselves in the foot.

Sit down is a good idea, why not handcuff yourself to a capitalist.
Should be peaceful. Useful to have propoganda quotes,
and possibly representatives of communities affected by capitalsim?
Call them over the internet@ http://prodos.com/phone,

Everyone deserves the right to demonstrate for their beliefs, even if they are a bunch of rich tossers.

The right to protest against protest!
22.10.2001 13:41
why should the very people who are actually against the right to protest and against democracy in general be allowed to protest unhindered: Capitalists, fascists and Bolsheviks for example.
Anyway the right to protest must include the right to protest against protest (although the march of the capitalists is rather a march in support of capitalism than any sort of real protest)!

Capitalism is about economics
22.10.2001 14:12
Thank you for not respnding to me rudely. Although I agree sincerely with your view that a right to protest should definitely include the right to protest against the capitalist 'supporters'. The only thing I would add is that a supporter of capitalism is only that, and not a supporter of restriction of protest rights, or against democracy. This is what our 'pro-capitalist' governments seem to enjoy doing with their time, not what a supporter of a free market economy necessarily agrees with.

Capitalism's principle advocate...
I think we should JOIN his protest and shout ironic slogans. That would really annoy him.
What a twat.

cmon folks.... PRANK IT

There's a cool email list u can join - people are reporting back what kind of media coverage they're getting - it's a no-brainer folks.......
...the press LOVE this shit - it provides the cute kitten end story AND makes their reports 'balanced' - they've had mentions in all sorts of media so far.... so.....
Sign up as contact in your area, then get talking to the press, in the same manner as RTMark style folks have been speaking at meetings as spoof IMF/WTO speakers - push the most outrageous nasty capitalist lines you can think of.
On the day don't attack anyone just go with a bit of nice street theatre - the press may well send out reporters to cover the pro-capitalist walk, so make sure you do some funny but serious street theatre in front of their cameras...
the old role playing idea would be great - one of you pretends to be pro-capitalist wanker, I mean walker, another plays the anti-capitalist person - heated LOUD arguement ensues in which capitalist nutter's arguement falls apart when faced with truths from anti-capatilist - use your imagination, the capitalist may well repent and admit that the free market is all he has left to hang onto along with a cocaine habit after his family left him for being an uncaring bastard etc etc
Have some FUN :))

The only reservation I have about doing this is that it's a bit too nasty. I mean, obviously these guys are ridiculously misinformed, but I wonder whether it's a bit nasty to sabotage their event.

Ignorance?
12.11.2001 19:10
The people that are marching for thier ideal of freedom realize that it is not a perfect utopian way of life, but it is the closest thing that they have to a free upbringing. Look at your socialist views and tell me that there is not a classful society. Tell me that everyone will have the same lifestyle and the same opportunities. It is not true nor will it ever be true. You need to look at the big picture here. We all know that life will never be perfect, but we should look toward ways to improve it. Logic is one of the finest gifts given to the human population. Those who choose to use it will prosper and find their way around the world. Those who do not will complain and bash those that they do not understand and end up in a world of hate.
I have a suggestion. Why don't you march peacefully with them. There is absolutely no need for violence or clashes. Show your support for what you believe in. If you believe in violence and ignorance then please, for the love of God, have the stamina to subside your hate for a fraction of your life.
Anthony
