200 ANTI-WAR PROTESTERS STAGE DEMONSTRATION IN LANCASTER
At noon on Saturday 13 october, more than 200 people gathered in Lancaster's
Market Square to protest against the war in Afghanistan.
The Lancaster & District Coalition Against the War organised the
demonstration which moved in an orderly and good-natured procession through
Lancaster's busy shopping centre to the lively sounds of drumming and
chanting.
Billy Pye, speaking for the Coalition said "Pictures of this crowd that has
massed today and the leaflets different groups have produced clearly
demonstrate that there is great opposition to this war and that this
opposition is rising and growing stronger every day. We invite everyone
opposed to this war to join us next Saturday 20th at 12 noon when many more
of us again will demonstrate here in Lancaster. Our main demand is an
immediate ceasefire."
