Dublin PPP Jailed Protesters report

Dave Lordan | 11.10.2001 15:06

Just released on Bail. Back In court next week with thriteen others to plead not guilty

Hi just released on bail along with the others who were arrested last night. Nobody suffered much harassment in the station except for being woken up in the middle of the night and laughed at frequently. Many of us were bruised and bloodied by the baton charge. Many of the police, some in plain clothes, used wooden batons (ie- big sticks). We are all charged with public disorder, one is charged with carrying an offensive weapon (a penknife) and another is charged with trying to steal a policemans radio. In fact the policeman was using the walkie talke to split open the activists head. He had to be taken to hospital where he recieved six stitches. We are back in court next thursday and will be pleading not guilty to all charges. Ten of those arrested were members of the Socialist Workers party, one from the WSM (platform anarchists) and the others Globalise Resistance and/or independents.
Cheers Dave Lordan

to you for being moral enough to go on a protest like this. I hope that you and your fellow arrestees are going to be suing the police for this behaviour. I think it demonstrates quite clearly to all of us what sort of law and order "our guardians" are interested in. Make sure that you post updates and information on any need that there is for bail or for money for fighting a court case.
This abuse of police power must not be allowed.
