The 'Anti-Capitalist Anti-War March' was the more radical of the two. It began at 9am on Saturday, 29sep from Upper Senate Park across from Union Station and the US Capitol led by Police Chief Ramsey and Assistant Chief Gainer it proceded via New Jersey Avenue to and along Massachusetts Avenue until 3rd Street and then turned onto H Street so as to cross downtown WDC where on H at 10th Street a 'clash' broke-out between the police and the protesters that by 11th Street had been brought 'under control'. The march continued on to its destination which was the IMF-World Bank located 2 blocks from the White House at Pennsylvania Avenue between 18th and 19th Streets where the police dressed in riot gear strategically surrounded the block from all four corners thereby 'detaining' all protesters as well as many press members for more than an hour ... perhaps in response to the 'clashing and thrashing' that had occured along the way but in anticipation of a more 'intense and uncontrollable' confrontation if this more 'radical' group was permitted to meet-up with a second but more 'peaceful' protest that was under way 6 blocks away at Freedom Plaza which started at 12n and marched in the opposite direction for an afternoon rally at the US Capitol.

I was not able to photgraph the second demonstatration as I, along with the protesters, had been 'detained in streets'. And by the time we were 'released' around 12:45 or so the 2nd and more 'peaceful' march was already on its way and since I had other plans for the later in the evening I decided to not focus on the second march.

However, I did awake early Sunday morning in time enough to photograph the Sunday, 30sep 'March for Peace' which began at 11am in Maclcolm X Park with a speakers' rally and prayer vigil, departing from the park at 15th and Euclid Streets, proceding on Euclid across to 14th Street and then down 14th where at the bottom of 'The Hill' at the intersection of 14th and Florida Avenue Police Chief Ramsey and Assistant Chief Gainer joined in and then led the march, on foot, down to R Street and then onward to Massachusetts Avenue where the protesters gathered for a second rally in Sheridan Circle to grieve the 11sep victims and to celebrate the principals of peace ...
