Who is not for US is for the Taliban

08.10.2001 07:30

Capatilist - you are making a crucial point. Does a demo against the bombing of the City of Kabul mean approval of the oppression of women by the Taliban?
I have signed petitions against the oppression of women in Afghanistan for the last 3 the years (not much use, I admit), AND I was at the demo last night.
Bush says "every nation has to decide wether they are for us or against us". So he tells us there are only two options. Supporting the US government (=freedom) and approving of "Terrorism" (the Taliban including their dictatorship in Afghanistan) or opposing the US and therefor approving of the Taliban regime (which ironically has been installed by the US themselves).
But do we really need to go along with Bushs 2 options? There are more than two positions! I can despise the oppression of women in Afghanistan just as much as I despise the destruction of Kabul, and the fact that millions of ordinary people of Afghanistan had to leave their homes and are now surviving in refugee camps along the borders of Afghanstan. But at least they get food parcels by the armies that made them flee in the first place. Great.

Of course we hate the Taleban!!!!

08.10.2001 08:22

Of course everyone hates the Taleban and wants them removed but it was the USA that put the Taleban in power and funded them with 40 billion dollars a year. The USA want to replace the Taleban with a more western friendly government like the Northern Alliance who are just as brutal and also make money from growing poppies to produce heroin for sale to the west.

This war will not help the Afghan people. They need the Taleban removed in a way that is right for them not the west which is only interested in protecting its own interests in the middle east.

This war will not solve the problem of terrorism either it will only incite more terrorists to carry out even more desparate acts in revenge for this attack on Afghanistan. This war will only make the situation ten times worse. Even before the bomings hundreds of thousands of Afghans fed to the Pakistan border to escape the coming air strike and became refugees.

This war is not about fighting terrorism is about imposing western imperialism on the middle east. The USA planned to attack Afghanistan months before the attacks on the WTC and Pentagon so that it could puyt in power a more western friendly government in Afghanistan.

To Capitalist: Let's not forget..

08.10.2001 13:00

Let's not forget that the CIA trained, supported and setup the Taliban-regime; just consistent behaviour from the US when setting up client-states -- put the most repressive, fanatic tyrant bastards to rule the country. And the world has done nothing to overthrow the Taliban-regime, and end the terror against the population -- for what reason? Well, you'd have to figure that out for yourself, but a hint is to look at the top of my comment..

So, who's side are you really on?

Thank you for the pictures!

08.10.2001 20:46

Thank you for letting us see what's happening in response to the attacks. From the reporting we hear, all of the UK is united behind Tony B. (who appears to be a loyal servant of George W.).

A friend who's a Navy veteran and was almost called up for the Gulf War called me last night. She told me that the bombing began as her group was setting up for Food not Bombs, and an angry man approached her and began yelling at her about how the US should kill in response to the S11 attacks. When he paused, she told him that we'd begun bombing, and his demeanor changed dramatically. "You mean we're killing innocent people?" he asked.

Democracy and freedom, YES!
Cruise missiles, NO!

drop acid not bombs

09.10.2001 01:01

I hear tnat in return for Pakistans cooperation that the US and UK are going to let them continue with their nuclear weapons development programe which just goes to show the world how hypercrytical western politics are. If your on Bush's "side" you can play with his toys and kill in the name of "justice" which are the same games the US have been playing with other countries for years and when the worm turns and things go wrong, ie Allied forces fighting enemies using weapons bought from Western states, just remember war is big buisness for many people living in the US and UK. Nuff hidden agendas here amongst the dealings of capitalist's playing chess with innocent lives. US citizens and the rest of the developed world need to take the power back and if you don't like the taste of the pie change the ingredients, good and evil are creations of a paranoid mind and this is a war between two sets of fundametalists.

re Olives food parcels

09.10.2001 17:31

I read an interview with a refugee in a camp in Pakistan that is posted on RAWA's site I think and he said they were not getting any food. He said the aid people just came and took photos and made great speeches and then they never saw them again.

Not all lefties are the same

15.10.2001 11:11

Not all "Leninists" are the same

At the protest outside Downing Street, the SWP did nothing but chant inane harmless slogans like "stop the bombing, stop the hate, spend it on the welfare state".

However the Revolutionary Communist Group (Fight Racism! Fight Imperialism! paper) first made a good speech condemning the government and the Labour Party, saying how it had always been an imperialist party and had gassed the Kurds in 1923 (something the SWP never does because they don't want to offend their Labour friends) and then offered the megaphone to anyone who wanted to speak, even people who just wanted "peace" and not anger.

War on terrorism?

17.10.2001 10:53

If president tony b is going to help the first night of the western realm george W bush with 'his' war on terrorism, then why cant he make an effort to stop americans funding the IRA.
