New Article re: continuous vigil behind Swiss Cottage tube-
"Camden Council plan to close down and demolish the Swiss Cottage Sports Centre, and allow a private developer to build a tower block of luxury private flats on the site. A smaller sports centre will be built, resulting in a significant loss of public facilities compared to what is there currently.
They also plan to close down the Swiss Cottage community market(THIS WEEKEND!). There will be NO ROOM for a market in the new development.
A huge tower block containing 169 flats will be built on top of a reduced size sports facility. Most of the flats will be sold off to private buyers at prices far beyond the reach of most local residents. Of the 41 flats reserved for "affordable" rental, 19 will have bedrooms with no windows, only skylights. The block will overshadow Taplow tower.
The new sports pitch will be 60% smaller than the current one. It will only be the size of a tennis court.
The new swimming pool will be 20% smaller than the current one, and the new Sports Hall will be 15% smaller than the present facility.
However, local residents will "benefit" from a space-wasting "water feature" spurting jets of water 65 feet into the air. Obviously more useful than a sports pitch for local children!
Oh, and an underground car park for 200 more cars, opening onto Winchester Road."
