Blunkett Delivers a Blinder

Home Secretary, David Blunkett, began his address of the -forced- Labour Party Bash @Brighton with the memorable statement “I Have A Vision” which was met with raptuous applause from delegates who had earlier been herded in by security staff to endure the final day of conference.

In his key note speech lasting a formidable three and a half hours –a personal best- Mr Blunkett out-lined what he called the “Trashing of Terror.” No stone would go unturned he claimed: “It will began at the Houses of Parliament, move onto the Palaces, Military Bases, Police Headquaters and corporate Press offices”, he said, “until the apparatus of terror in this country is destroyed and society free.”

“In this war on terrorism”, he went on, “we must be patient, our sight must be long; in this war on terrorism we must be alert, our eyes must be peeled; in this war on terrorism we must be strong, our senses solid.”

His comments were met with a mixed response outside the hall as delegates, many of whom were weary and tired by this time, spoke of his “statesman like stance” and whether he has the ability to put his money were his mouth is. “I think he came across well, though I’m a bit apprehensive about his ‘eye-for-an-eye’ attitude”, said one female party member, while another thought Mr Blunketts speech “was absolutely blinding.”
