Elstree Eleven Trial Begins

Trial begins today of eleven people who took part in a blockade of Sainsbury's distribution deposts in opposition to the use of GM animal feed.

On 22nd February this year five regional distribution depots which supply chilled food products to Sainsbury's supermarkets were blockaded. Shortly afterwards, Sainsbury's changed their position, announcing a target date for the elimination of poultry products fed on GM material.

The blockade at the Elstree depot in Hertfordshire lasted ten hours and eleven people were arrested for Aggravated Trespass and Obstruction.

Their trial at Dacorum Magistrates Court, Hemel Hempstead, starts today and is likely to last until Friday 28th September. All are pleading not guilty and will be calling Dr Vyvian Howard and Dr Eric Millstone as expert witnesses in support of their assertion that animal products fed on genetically modified material are potentially unsafe.

Supporters and spectators will be welcome at the trial.
