JUST FEW WEEKS AFTER THE DELTA STATE GOVT. SIGNED THE LAW PROHIBITING YOUTH ASSOCIATION IN THE STATE ( NIGER-DELTA), 5 YOUTH ARE ALREADY FACING TRIAL.
Just few weeks After the Government of Delta state , Niger-Delta region , Nigeria Signed a bill prohibiting the free association and bounding of all existing youth movement and association in Delta state, Nigeria the atmosphere is tense as 5 youth have been reported to be facing charges for violating this new law passed by the state house of assembly. The fate of these youth at as today is unknown as the government and their multinational collaborators seems to have signed this bill to stop the youth in the region from expressing their fundamental human right to free association . There have also been series of complains from different quaters that if this is not control and there is no resistance there is the tendency that other 7 states of the Niger-delta may use the same strategies to finally in the name of democracy silent the Niger-Delta youth that have been the back bone of the struggle of democratisation of Niger-Delta resources and transparent management of the Nigeria oil sector and the development host comminity.
The Nigeria constitution gives the youth a freedom of association while the delta state government says no to freedom of youth association. Where do we go from here.
We need advice and contribution from all stakeholders of environment, development and people empowerment individuals or people, organisations and movement world-wide to help us with support in the area of ideas, or materials on how to win this great man inhumanity to man war -a struggle for human survival. A struggle of people marginalised in the management , control and development of their oil rich Niger-Delta.
