LET'S STOP THE WAR, CALL TO ACTION

Hi,

Here in Barcelona we call on the social movements from all the cities possible to organise movilisations to stop the war. Each campaign can choose the slogans if sees appropriate but the most important thing is to QUICKLY show the world that there are many of us who believe war is never an adequate response, and that we have reasons to believe this. As well as rallies as soon as possible in front of symbolic places, such as our own governments or US consulates, WE PROPOSE demonstrations for the weekend 29 and 30 September, coinciding with a big demonstration by US movements in Washington. In such an urgent situation, we believe it is especially important in the demonstrations to demand that our own governments do not support the US government's war plan.

In Barcelona we have already called the following actions:

FRIDAY 21 SEPTEMBER 18:00 PLAZA SANT JAUME IN BARCELONA

RALLY: LET'S STOP THE WAR!

AND... SATURDAY 29 SEPTEMBER 18:00 PLAZA UNIVERSITAT IN BARCELONA

GRAND DEMONSTRATION

What then?

Yet another article stating that the response of the US and other countries - which apparently are going to war - is incorrect. The WTC attack is undoubtedly not going to be the last yet no one actually suggests another solution that seems plausible other than holding a candle, signing petitions or just saying we want peace. Perhaps some radical transformation of society may bring a new world order be it will take years. Those who say any response will lead to a cycle of violence are accepting that thousands of others are likely to become innocent victims in the mean time.

I agree, what then?

Like many of the pacifist ideology, you offer no response to those who don't care about your ideas and kill without care, also. What would you do, if someone came into your house and killed one of your children, offer the others?

You, and your associates, need to study history. Look to the response to Hilter, before WWII for examples of how NOT to deal with terrorists.

Plesae respond to above logic presented with ideas that actually have some basis in logic, other than some emotional appeal! Real people died! What do you propose (other than total capitulation) that would solve the problem?

By their own statements, the terrorists want the U.S. and Israel to no longer exist. How does anyone "peacefully" respond to that, other than suicide?

Grow up! It's a big, wide, world and you can get off mommy's tit anytime!

Logic?

Don't flatter yourself john wayne - your 'argument' can hardly be described as logic. Remember that when you visit this website you are, in general, dealing with people who haven't been brainwashed by the corporate media and who's views are therefore likely to be based upon fact, not prejudice.

In answer to your question, if someone came into my house and killed one of my children, I would be grief-stricken and would probably be desperate to exact revenge upon someone. However, I hope I would still retain enough grasp of reason and basic morality to realise that murdering a whole load of innocent Afghani children was an innappropriate response.

So-called Islamic Fundamentalists (true Islam actually forbids the killing of civilians, even in a war situation) have been carrying out these atrocities for years, both on westerners and on other Muslims. Western leaders have also been carrying out atrocities - although it's considered tasteless to say so at this time, the facts remain that the US and its allies are ultimately responsible for millions of innocent deaths all over the world, continuing as we speak in places such as Iraq, Palestine, Turkish Kurdistan, Aceh, Irian Jaya, Columbia etc. etc. Check the facts - read some literature by the journalists and writers who actually bother to cover the effects of the 'smart bombs', economic sanctions and military aid our leaders are so keen on - Noam Chomsky, John Pilger, Robert Fisk or George Monbiot, for example - you'll see that I'm telling the truth. America has already called upon Pakistan to cut off the supplies of food and other goods that are keeping millions of starving Afghans alive, supposedly to punish their oppressors, the Taliban. These poor people have nothing to do with terrorism, they are starving and oppressed and live in daily fear that they will be whipped, maimed or executed for breaking one of the Taliban's arbitrary 'Islamic' laws. But the US wants them dead. This, cowboy, is the moral level of the people you are calling upon us to support.

There are two possible ways to view this atrocity - as an attack on the west which we must avenge, an eye for an eye and all that - they killed our people, we kill theirs. Or you can see it as just another example of a corrupt and evil leader using his power to kill innocent people, as they have been doing throughout history. Is the answer to rally behind our own equally murderous leaders and go kill some more innocent people? Not if I can help it.
