PEACE//ANTI-WAR VIGIL, LONDON

There's to be a peace/anti-war vigil at 2pm on tuesday 18th sept at Parliment Square. The intention is for it to go on well into the night around the Parliment and the Whitehall area.

The vigil is not being organized by anyone/group in particular. a call has been put out by one or two individuals under the banner Peace and Anti-war Collective, that's all.

The idea is for us all to get together: anarchists, trots, muslims, christians, whatever, to show solidarity and FULLY OPPOSE ANYMORE VIOLENCE that is to be dished out by our psychopathic leaders.

It may turn into a march, it may just be that we stand silent, shout at the top of voices, sit and cry.....whatever, but we HAVE TO DO SOMETHING!

What happened on Tuesday is an opportunity for the governments of the "new world order" to fully oppress any dissent to their murderous policies.

It is also an opportunity for us THE PEOPLE to educate, liberate, and create the world we want.
Love and Rage...

Protests and Peace

17.09.2001 15:01

It seems many organisations and networks have been pulling out of planned protests in the US - the large anti-capitalist convergence protests against the IMF/WB meeting that was scheduled for washington DC has ssen lots of participating groups pulling out while some protests against particular companies have also been abandoned.

The network around the IMF/WB says the protests will still continue but will be modified.

YES it is sad and YES you can mourn for the dead, but surely it is even more important to continue protesting against the loss and ruin of lives around the world and calling for a better world for all. As many may fear the anti-capitalist movement may be targeted as being part of some global terrorist threat - all the more reason to articulate the base demands of JUSTICE not WAR for all.

A new peace movement possible? A new movement saying what it is FOR rather than AGAINST? Do not let this time pass...

Peace Vigil 18 Sept 6pm opposite Downing St

Some of us will be there at 6pm opposite Downing st. We'll be there to say we oppose violence against civilians anywhere in the world. Killing thousands of Iraqis or Afghans will not bring back the victims of New York. The media would like to be able brand these peace rallies as anti-american. What we are is anti-violence. Therefore, it's very important NOT to be chanting, singing at these rallies. Now's not the time to 'rage'.

just to say I agree completely. I think that the climate is so delicate at the moment that any kind of chanting or noise - even something inspiring like a samba band - would scare people and make them defensive. Its really important that we make people who wouldn't ordinarily protest and may be don't know how to go about it feel welcome and comfortable, and included. I also think that some of the most poignant and effective protests I know of have been silent and meditative. Silence, to me, in a strange way indicates a profound statement that everyone can comprehend and find their own meaning within. No one I have spoken to wants a war, and I think it is import and that we convey the message of peace by being peaceful and not giving our jingoistic war-mongering excuse for a press any ammo against us or our cause. And when I say 'us', I mean everyone, and when I say cause, I mean trying to prevent the war. It would sadden me to see any individual group try to use this as a podium.
