Welfare not WarFair!

Genoseize Therat | 15.09.2001 19:35

One of Friday's events at DSEi.

On Friday, 3 activists climbed a crane across the dock from the Excel centre, dropping a banner which read "Welfare not WarFair". The trio remained on the crane, watched by police, cheered on by other activists, and drawing interest from locals, and a reporter for a student newspaper. The only downside was that the banner wasn't particularly visible from the other side of the dock, or, presumably, from the Excel building.

The police wouldn't tell us whether they would be arrested if they came down. Eventually (at around 2:10) they decided to come down, and were arrested "under suspicion of criminal damage". This related to a hole in the security wire which they had used to climb up, and back down. Whether they had cut the hole, or if it was already there, well... that was for the police to prove ;-)

The brave trio were taken to the local station, interviewed, and released that evening (about 7:30 or 8:00 I think). The police didn't press charges.
