FARC-EP - Scapegoats of the Empire...

Al Giordano | 23.08.2001 16:34

As the clock ticks toward the October 9th deadline for cancelling or extending the peace talks in Colombia, the mass media - eager for a war to cover - is up to the same old tricks [as during the 'necklace bomb' smear]

Narco News Commentary: Remember the "necklace bomb"?

Last year, the Colombian and international press was in an uproar over the
video-taped violence in which a Colombian woman lost her life and a police officer lost his arms as a "necklace bomb" exploded on the victim's collar.

Colombian President Andrés Pastrana immediately blamed the FARC - the
Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia - and this message shot around the world
in parroting press reports. Later, it was proved that the FARC was not involved, that the necklace bomb had been set by common criminals in an attempt to extort money from the victim. Still later, Narco News translated the memoirs of the former national police chief in Colombia, José Serrano, as he recounted the pressures by Pastrana (and, presumably, the United States government that he serves) to heap false blame for this tragedy on the guerrilla.

As the clock ticks toward the October 9th deadline for cancelling or extending the peace talks in Colombia, the mass media - eager for a war to cover - is up to the same old tricks. This time, the fingerprints of British and U.S. spy agencies and their media networks are all over the story, in which three Irish republicans were arrested in Colombia and charged with giving "terrorist" and "bomb-making" lessons to the Colombian rebels.

This two-for-one propaganda campaign serves a dual purpose: scuttling the peace
processes in Colombia and in Northern Ireland. It's the same script, driven by the same powers, in different parts of the world.

FARC active again

24.08.2001 09:54

I see that FARC kidnapped another German this week (after three other Germans were also kidnapped recently). On top of the bombs yesterday in Marinilla (killing one) and in San Fransisco on 09Aug (killing three children), the peace process looks doomed...
However, I'm sure that Al Giordano and his conspiracy theorists believe that this is nothing to do with FARC and the ELN. After all, the 17,000-member FARC and 5,000-member ELN just sit around dispensing the people's justice with the full support of the masses - although I can't remember any elections taking place...

JUNTA violence against the poor

24.08.2001 21:56

FARC, are not a military army, they are a union type organisation, consisting mainly of peasants and the poor, they were proved not to be involved in violence or kidnapping, FARC only try to defend and protect the poor and peasants. It is the junta police that are the most violent army, torturing, intimidating and murdering their own countrymen women and children at the behest of the corporate world.

IRA Hostages in Colombia

25.08.2001 12:54

FARC is a very disciplined movement-should we say a threat to American expansionism. Former combatants of IRA having a working holiday in areas controlled by ELN should be a blessing to "peace makers" as FARC teaches discipline and self reliancy. I think the 3 comrades"IRA" being taken Hostages really shows how the pathetic junta in Colombia can go to extreem means to please Uncle Sam and Westminster.

WHAT???

I know some try to justify the actions of Farc and the ELN, but I've never heard anyone claim that they are just some type of well organised social club!!!
