Update #1 Online - Indymedia Video on Genoa

Italy IMC | 23.08.2001 15:15

The first Indymedia Video Production documenting the reality of the situation which unfolded in Genova in late July is on line and ready to download (2-3 hours, get your hard disks ready!). Remember, this is only the first of a series of films ... stay tuned!!!

Indymedia has finally completed its Genova protest footage project which it has been working on for the last month. The on-line version of our Genova documentary is now available and is helping to contribute to a free and open exchange of information which we have always supported.
THIS VIDEO CLIP IS AVAILABLE COPYRIGHT-FREE TO ALL EXCEPT CORPORATE MEDIA.
The current video film is the first in a series of planned updates which aim to highlight the facts which a large portion of the mainstream media chose to ignore. A more complex and in-depth documentary is in the pipelines - stay tuned. The video can be downloaded here. (This version is in Italian but the English version will be made available soon).
Furthermore, Genova video clips; Rebel Colours (a film about the anti-World Bank meeting in Prague in Sept 2000); a video on the NATO summit in Naples earlier in 2001 and Living Proof (a short but excellent video) will also be availble here soon.
We thank the autistici.org+inventati.org server for their assistance and collaboration in this project.

Respectful request

Could I humbly and respectfully request that the English version, after you have worked so very hard to produce it, could be offered in <= 5Mb chunks of mpeg (not *.ram, not *.avi) - ie generic and accessible for us lesser mortals with slow dial up lines?

I have problems seeing the video. I can hear the audio but not see the picture. I've tried opening the file in Real Player, Quicktime, WinMedia, and importing into Premiere.

Help?

No matter how painful it is to sit through, you have to watch this.

Moving, sickening and informative.

Playing the video

OK, in response to both of the above video problems...

I haven't downloaded it myself yet, but it's an AVI probably encoded with the DivX codec - sound is in an MP3 stream in the AVI, which is why it plays, but the video is probably DivX - if you get _both_ these codecs and install them, Windows Media Player should then show your video.

And... DivX makes smaller, higher quality files than MPEG - mainly 'cos it's basically MPEG v4 ! So, yeah 5MB chunks would be cool, but DivX'd AVIs are still better for us :)
