Re: "The Odds of winning are so slim"

I wouldn't want to phrase it like that. "Odds" makes it sound like it's all a matter of chance.

If we do leave it to chance then yes we do have a very low probability of success.

This is why we must not leave it to chance.

With our creativity and innovation and armed with the truth and the forces of good (as opposed to evil) we have what it takes to win this battle. We must make sure that we do that.

Great words!

I just want to say that this article is fantastic! I think all the points made in it are extremely good, and I like the way he is very even handed, giving credit to both sides of the movement (black bloc and pacifists). It more or less sums up my own thoughts about what is going on, but much more eloquently than I could. I myself am in the SWP, but am really excited by the possibility of working with all sorts of other people from different perspectives than my own. Starhawk is absolutely right - we should not be attacking the black bloc, who are our comrades and who are just as serious as anyone else about overthrowing capitalism. We have a common enemy, the capitalist class and its state - that is who we should be attacking.

The only disagreement I have is the recycling of slogans - a lot of the slogans from the 60s were quite good, so I don't see anything wrong with modifying them! Of course we should think of new ones as well!

Laters!
