Daily Mail responds about Indymedia in Genoa
Undercurrents | 20.08.2001 12:20
Lucie Morris of Daily Mail writes to undercurrents and defends her reporting during Genoa and her slanders of Indymedia joruno.
Dear Ms Morris
Undercurrents productions are producing a documentary on the protests surrounding the G8.
We would like to offer you the opportunity to be interviewed on camera. We will be exploring the role which the media played in demonising demonstraters through the ill informed reporting.
Your articles on Independent Media reporter, Marcus Covell, as the "mastermind" behind the riots have been ridiculed in the press and elsewhere.
We would be interested in offering a platform to hear your side of the story. We are available to interview you anytime next week.
Yours sincerely,
Paul O' Connor

Thankyou for your e-mail. I'm afraid I am unavailable for interview but good luck with your documentary.
I hope you include how protesters spent the night before the riots making petrol bombs, weapons and riot shields in the Football stadium in the east of the city indicating motives among all the demonstrators may not have
been entirely peaceful.
You should also be aware that when police chiefs, foreign office officials, armed guards around a hospital bed and even relatives indicate a person is suspected of being involved in organising protests as a journalist there
were significant grounds to compile a story.
And you should also know that I went to great lengths, and personal risks, of getting to Mr Covell's hospital bedside surrounded by police so he could put his side across which to me as a professional, objective journalist is
vital.
Yours sincerely
Lucie Morris
